Impact Story: Rafael

Rafael was nervous about stepping into the swimming pool for the first time. He didn’t know how to swim but with the help of Y lifeguards and swim instructors, by the end of his first swim lesson Rafael was thriving in the pool, blowing bubbles and putting his face in the water—a big achievement that first day. He begged his mom to let him to come to the Y every day to practice his swimming. Soon Rafael could paddle across the pool and had mastered water safety skills.

Teens help teens get active at the Y

Some of the teen volunteers at the Sammamish YMCA have identified a passion for helping their peers stay active! These teens have collaborated with the Y’s personal training staff to develop a workout circuit just for teens. We would like to invite all local high school students to join us at the Y for a teen-led circuit workout each Friday from 3:15 to 3:45 p.m., beginning tomorrow, Friday, March 9.

The workout circuit, designed by Caleb Buck, director of personal training at the Sammamish Y, was created for people of all abilities and experience levels. Free weights and bodyweight will be used to complete the high-energy circuit.
