Waypoint Pediatric Therapies, based in Issaquah, runs a monthly infant development class that covers all sorts of infant development topics ranging from gross motor topics to fine motor and speech. Topics discussed each month can range from tummy time tips and tools, to learning to sit and reach, to how to progress with developmental milestones such as crawling or walking.

“We usually focus on one gross motor skill set and then teach parents and caregivers how to support and encourage this skill, as well as educate them on how this skill might impact other areas of development such as cognitive, speech, or fine motor skills,” says Stacey McCutchan, a licensed physical therapist for Waypoint. “All of our classes are also very open format in nature. Parents often come with many questions and concerns and our goal is to be able to provide them with knowledgeable, reliable answers in order to help them best support their little ones. One reason we got into hosting these classes was we found so many parents of our young patients had questions about their infants’ development and what was good, bad, worrisome etc., so we wanted to act a community resource where parents can go to ask questions. We use some of our developmental expertise as pediatric physical therapists to help answer parents’ questions – a much better option than getting lost in the many misleading answers on the internet. Although we host monthly classes at our clinic, we are excited to reach out and meet with parents and caregivers at non-profits like the Sammamish YMCA.”
