In the cabana of Klahanie’s Highland Gardens neighborhood, about 20 Kindergarten through 12th grade students gather to participate in the Y’s on-site afterschool homework/enrichment program.

Jorge, a third-grader, is one of many who has benefitted from the help of the HG volunteers from the Y’s Teen Leadership Board, teens who help their peers to develop strong study skills.
“Jorge has ADHD and was having issues turning in his homework,” says his mom Cecilia. “We tried several tutoring places and none worked. We brought him to HG this fall and he’s turning in his homework all of the time now. The caring tutors are such great role models.”

Our campaign will raise $165,000 to make sure that all in our community have access to these programs and services.
